Jo Ann Gates, MD is a leader in Pediatrics, Global Health, and Urgent Care Medicine. Her career thus far has spanned caring for patients in the public health sector, private practice, children’s hospital, community hospital, emergency room, urgent care clinic, and in resource-limited settings around the world.
Dr Gates was a National Health Service Corps Scholarship recipient and has received honors and awards in clinical medicine. As part of the National Health Service Corps, in her early career she care for patients at the Hillsborough County Health Department in Tampa, Florida. After returning to NH in 2009, Dr. Gates practiced as a general and hospital pediatrician before transitioning to Urgent Care.
Dr Gates has been caring for urgent care patients at Convenient MD Urgent Care for the past seven years. Now Regional Medical Director, Dr. Gates continually monitors clinical performance to ensure all services and operations comply with regulatory policies and procedures. Dr. Gates assists in developing clinical protocols and performance objectives. She helps to train, educate and supervise physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners. She manages several laboratories within Convenient MD clinics. She helped Convenient MD to respond and adapt to a myriad of changes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a leader in Global Health, Dr Gates had led multiple teams on Medical Mission trips around the world. She acts as the Director of Global Health and International Outreach at Convenient MD. She is a Helping Babies Breathe certified instructor and has taught the course in several countries to teams of doctors, nurses, and community health care workers. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Wilderness Medical Society, and the Urgent Care Association of America.
When she is not working, Dr Gates enjoys writing and spending time outdoors with her husband and two children hiking, backpacking, skiing, and surfing.
