This page lists everything neruca.org stores on your device, what each item is for, and how to change what you allow. It covers cookies and the other browser storage this site uses, because listing only cookies would leave most of the picture out.
The short version: NERUCA sets no cookies of its own. What we store is kept by your browser, on your device, and never leaves it. The only cookies that can appear here belong to Google Analytics, and you can switch those off at any time.
Your choice, and how to change it
Analytics is on by default and you can turn it off whenever you like. Choose Decline on the notice that appears on your first visit, or open Cookie settings from the footer of any page. Turning it off takes effect immediately: we stop collecting, and any analytics cookies already on your device are deleted.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we treat that as a decision you have already made. Analytics stays switched off, no notice appears, and nothing is collected — you don't have to do anything. You can still turn it on for this site from Cookie settings if you want to.
Your choice is stored on the device and browser you made it in. Clearing your browser data, or visiting from a different device, means we ask again.

Things the analytics switch does not control
Three items in the list above stay available whatever you choose, because they only run when you ask for something specific and switching them off would break the thing you asked for:
- reCAPTCHA runs only at the moment you submit a form, to stop automated spam. Nothing loads while you are simply reading, and it protects a service you initiated.
- YouTube videos load nothing at all until you press play — the thumbnails you see are still images served from this site, and the player is only built once you click it. We use youtube-nocookie.com, so YouTube sets nothing before playback either.
- Conference registration and the agenda on our conference pages are provided by Whova, which needs its own storage to run. It appears only on those pages.
What we don't do
- No advertising cookies, no remarketing, and no ad networks.
- No cross-site or third-party behavioural tracking, and no profiles built about you.
- We do not sell or share your personal information, in the ordinary sense or in the specific sense those words carry under state privacy law.
- Google Signals and ad personalisation are switched off in our analytics configuration, and IP addresses are anonymised before they reach the report.
- Our error monitoring records crashes so we can fix them. It sets no cookies and is configured not to capture personal information.
Managing storage in your browser
Beyond the controls on this site, every major browser lets you view, block and delete cookies and site data — usually under Privacy or Site settings. Deleting this site's data removes everything listed above, including the record of your cookie choice, so the notice will appear again on your next visit.
Blocking storage entirely also works: this site is built to keep functioning without it. You will simply be asked about cookies each time, and your display settings won't carry over between visits.
Questions or changes
We update this page whenever what we store changes. When the list changes materially we ask everyone again, so a choice you made under an older version is never quietly carried forward.
